3 BEST Places to Stay in White Mountains ( Guide) – New Hampshire Magazine

We’re planning a week’s stay at the beginning of October to view the Fall foliage. We’re primarily interested in scenic drives, as well as probably doing some hiking. Hopefully we’ll have time to go on some of the less-traveled routes if such actually existsin addition to the best known ones such as the Kanc Hwy. Really not interested in the more touristy attractions like the aerial tram, cog railway, etc.

No kids, just 2 adults. It seems like either Lincoln or Jackson might be a good, centralized base, Is one less crowded or otherwise more desirable than the other? Or читать далее there a third, better choice? I know it might make more sense to move around источник статьи bit, but we prefer not having to unpack and pack multiple times. Lincoln and Jackson are both good options. The other obvious choice would be North Conway.

Don’t think of the aerial trams and the Cog railway as ‘touristy’ attractions. The Cog is an historic railroad that will take you to one of the the most dramatic environments in the world at the summit of Mt Washington. Similarly, the trams are ways to get you to view points that you would otherwise not best town to stay in white mountains nh able to get to.

These are not Disney rides. I suppose you узнать больше right about the tram and cog railway. But there’s also a road that goes to the top of Mt Washingtonisn’t there? The Cannon Mountain tram is more reasonably priced, so perhaps we will consider that one. The Mount Washington Carriage Road is another option for attaining the summit. You can drive it yourself for a fee or ride in the coaches. You’ll want to research and best town to stay in white mountains nh a decision though as the two trips train vs auto begin from opposite sides of the mountain.

Weather permitting, you should get to the top of MW one way or another. I am not real good at choosing better and best for folks I don’t know and there are many reasons to stay in any of the NH regions and all deserve to be explored. And before you cross off the “more touristy attractions”, remember there probably is a reason that so many folks are attracted to these places. You can explore the Great North Woods area which is less traveled and where you have a greater chance of seeing that darm moose that keeps eluding my wife.

Even if past peak which only lasts for an instant- like the moment after you get to the top of the rollercoaster and before you start descending that area is worth visiting and will be less traveled. Excellent advice. You’re very right, of course, it’s not really possible to select the “best” place for someone you don’t know. Everyone’s different and has different opinions on what makes something “best”.

I’m sure there’s not enough time to do all the exploring I’d like to do in just a week. For those reasons esp. VTI think Lincoln might be more convenient than North Conway or Jacksoneven if I might not consider it “better” in many other aspects. One week is just not enough, but it’s better than nothing. I’ll leave my options open and read about everything, then start whittling down what we will actually do and what we will skip.

This looks pretty interesting for something different to do. It’s a zip line they put in at Bretton Woods ski area. I imagine in the fall it must be beautiful riding the chair lift to the top dramatic views of Mt Washington and then taking the zip line to the bottom. It’s best town to stay in white mountains nh the canopy best town to stay in white mountains nh.

If I had to pick a place to stay it would definitely be in Jackson. Lots of great places to best town to stay in white mountains nh, things to do. I just love that area. I never get bored there. If VT is a “must do”, you’ll definitely be close to it in Lincoln But best town to stay in white mountains nh it’s only a “nice to do if time allows”, I’d vote for Jackson — more of a “village” по этой ссылке than Lincoln or North Conway ; easy access to great restaurants right there in Jackson limited restaurant choices in Lincoln or just down the road in North Conway or just up the road in Glen; easy “loop”: ride to see the foliage, hike, etc.

Just some alternatives to think about Wherever you decide to go, “good on you” for starting your planning so early — accommodations in any of the towns you’re considering will fill up come foliage season and you don’t want to end up sleeping in the car! VT was a must-do, but we’ve just pushed the trip ahead by one week, meaning we’ll be in the area starting Sep I’m not sure how much fall colors if any there will be in the VT hills that early in Fall, so maybe VT will have to be left out.

Certainly a village feel sounds much more appealing to me. But looking at yelp, I actually see more restaurants I’m interested in in Lincoln than in Jackson. But that isn’t too important, so I will definitely continue to leave my options open for the moment. But we do want to finalize our plans very soon. Sleeping in the car is not an option! Jackson is best town to stay in white mountains nh “up the road ” from N. It’s a small New England village with under inhabitants and best town to stay in white mountains nh handfull of restaurants.

Conway has many different and diverse places to eat as does Lincoln. You shopuld be able to find just about anything you desire in the way of food unless you’re looking for a specific named restaurants.

Northern Vt and NH should be experiencing good color at that time of the year. I would not be too concerned about eating if you stay in Jackson vs NC or any of the places along the road between the 2 it is a short road.

Here is a list of restaurants in the area which is far from complete and I know does not include some favorites of others. Skip to main content.
